(Black is LWG)

Leather is a natural, renewable material made from animal hides that have been preserved and softened through a tanning process. We select our leathers based on their individual properties and the intended application.

Leather lasts a long time, ages well and is easy to care for and repair. Leather will develop patina over time and gets better with age. Buying a well-made leather product can be considered an investment that supports slow fashion.

This product is made from leather sourced from a Leather Working Group (LWG) audited and rated tannery. LWG aims to improve the environmental impact of the leather industry by assessing and certifying leather manufacturers. The audit protocol covers energy use, waste, water use and chemicals, as well as traceability.

Chromium VI is not used in any tanning processes for our leathers.

MATERIAL & MAKERS NOTES

BN have been a long-term supplier of ELK starting with a small collection in 2013. They are now one of their main suppliers of leather goods. All leathers are sourced from LWG tanneries which is an association that sets high industry standards and audits tanneries for environmental performance. Additionally, all products are passed by REACH standard regulations, meaning they are made with restricted levels of specific chemical substances in their goods.

They are a family business with all members of the immediate and extended family playing key roles. Elk visit BN at least twice a year and they have ELK agents on the ground working with them on transparency, quality and operational standards.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Vegetable Tanned Leather

Each hide will vary in finish. The vegetable tanned leather is washed which exposes the natural grain and variations in each hide.

To maintain the beauty of your ELK wallet we recommend protective sprays and using a good quality leather conditioner to treat the product, which will increase its longevity. Do not put leather pieces on the ground or rub against abrasive surfaces. Leather is a natural material and will wear with age and use.
