. Composition .
60% Cupro 40% TENCEL™ Lyocell
Cupro is a man-made cellulosic fibre (MMCF) made by converting pre-consumer cotton lint waste into a fibre for textiles. Elk use Bemberg cupro, made by Asahi Kasei. This company sources their raw material from cottonseed oil production factories in India, Brazil, USA and Japan. They then use a process of dissolving and extruding fibres to create the cupro. Chemicals used in this part of the process are recycled, to reduce waste and create a closed-loop production system.
Asahi Kasei are taking steps to reduce their carbon footprint through initiatives such as sourcing up to 50% of their energy from renewable energy sources. They aim to reduce their carbon emissions by 30% by 2030 (2013 baseline).
TENCEL™ Lyocell is a man-made cellulosic fibre (MMCF), derived from wood pulp sourced from sustainably managed forests. It has a silk-like feel, fluid drape and comfortable breathability.
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres follow an environmentally responsible, closed loop production process, which transforms wood pulp into cellulosic fibres using high resource efficiency and low environmental impact compared to conventional methods of production. The spinning process recycles process water and reuses the solvent at a recovery rate of more than 99%.
